Podcast: Why Hasn’t Lower Inflation Brought Down Mortgage Rates?

In today’s podcast, in honor of the Fed’s meeting this week, I discuss why hasn’t the cooling down in the growth rate of inflation brought down mortgage rates in the 2nd half of 2023. For me, it’s always about the labor market and jobless claims data. One thing that has done better than anyone’s expectations this year has been the U.S. economy, even if people don’t want to admit it or keep on talking about the lag in the data since January of 2022, as some people have been doing.
